At this meeting, reports will be given by 2007-08 board members detailing what they have accomplished in the past year, service awards and certificates will be presented, and newly elected board members for the year 2007-08 will be installed. ALL CATESOL members are welcome to attend.

Join IEP colleagues during lunch and catch up on what’s happening in IEP classrooms around California and Nevada. Among the topics to be discussed are how IEP teachers are dealing with some of the effects of growing IEP enrollments: increasing monolingual classes, larger numbers of Saudi students, and more multilevel classes. Bring your own comments/concerns and learn from colleagues in this open forum.

Please join your college/university level colleagues to eat lunch and discuss how we are integrating diverse levels of students into our ESL programs. We will be discussing different instructional strategies to serve the needs of international graduate students, education abroad exchange students, recently-arrived undergraduate immigrant students, and Generation 1.5 students. In this informative session, we will get the opportunity to network and learn about each other’s programs and how we are addressing the needs of a wide range of ESL undergraduate and graduate students.

This presentation will smooth the way for CATESOL members who plan to work on a chapter, regional, or state CATESOL conference. CATESOL board guidelines, budgeting procedures, marketing ideas, and general tips for a successful conference will be provided. You will also meet Board members and others who help with conferences.

Californians Together is a statewide coalition of professional, civil rights and parent organizations (including CATESOL) that advocate in Sacramento for policies that provide access to a quality education for English learners. Hear what is happening this year at the State Board of Education, Curriculum Commission, Commission on Teacher Credentialing and the Legislature that will impact English learners. Learn how each conference participant can share his or her concerns and support this strong network.
