PCI Workshop A: MEET WITH ESL POLITICAL ADVOCATES AND LEGISLATORS AND TOUR THE STATE CAPITOL

Legislative Action Seminar In The State Capitol
UPDATED INFORMATION

This in-depth session will give CATESOL members an overview of the key legislative and budget issues of 2008. Participants will meet briefly in the Hyatt before proceeding to the Capitol. The main part of the session will be held in one of the hearing rooms in the State Capitol and will feature elected legislators and key staff members that have direct impact on English-learner policies. Participants will also have an opportunity to meet and talk with CATESOL’s legislative advocate. In addition the session will feature a tour of the historic state capitol and allow participants the opportunity to meet with their Assembly Members and Senators in their Capitol offices.

Each participant is responsible for scheduling their individual appointment with their legislator. Call or e-mail the office of your legislator at the earliest date possible to schedule a thirty minute period between 10:30-12:00 A. M. or in the afternoon if the legislator or their assistants are available. The site http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html may provide a link for contacting your legislator. Be well prepared to speak to your legislator or their assistant on the topic of interest to your level and provide printed material to support your position.
